How many should I fit, and where?

Single means one barrel per mount, so most people end up fitting a pair, one each side, to keep trolled lines apart. Plan the whole layout before drilling or clamping anything: behind the helm, clear of where people grab the rail climbing in.

Will my rail take the load?

Check the rail before you blame the holder. A hooked fish loads a rail mount hard and thin-walled tube with long spans between stanchions will flex or dent. Mount close to a stanchion where the rail is best supported, not in the middle of a long run.

What maintenance does it need?

A fresh water rinse after every saltwater trip, and work the adjustment through its range while it is wet so salt does not set in the pivot. SS316 resists pitting but it still surface-stains; a stainless cleaner takes the brown tea marks straight off.
