Joining tube to a flat surface. It takes tube up to 38 mm and gives you a bolt-down foot, which is how bimini frames, rocket launchers, canopy legs and rail sections get anchored to a deck or gunnel. On its own it does nothing — it's the join.
Measure the outside diameter of the tube, not the inside. Marine tube is sold by OD, and 38 mm is the largest this base takes — anything over that needs a bigger base. If yours is undersize, a shim or a tube insert takes up the slack.
More than you'd think. A bimini leg turns wind on the canopy into leverage at the base, and that load goes straight into the deck. Bolt through with a backing plate or big washers, bed it in marine sealant, and don't rely on self-tappers into thin alloy.
