Common questions

What is an angle rail, and do I have one?

Angle rail means the section is angled or square rather than round tube — common on alloy tinnies, pontoon frames and some centre console grab rails. Look at the cross-section of your rail: if it has flat faces and corners, this is your mount.

Can I use it on a round rail anyway?

Do not try it. A clamp shaped for flat faces only touches a round tube on two points, so it will not hold torque and it will rotate the first time a fish loads the rod. Get the round-rail version instead and save yourself the drama.

How tight should I do the clamp up?

Firm, then stop. Thin-walled alloy rail will deform if you keep winding, and a dented rail is a weaker rail. Nip it up, load the holder by hand to test it, then check it again after your first trip rather than cranking it harder now.
