For rod storage and light trolling, yes. Wire holders are built to hold a pair of rods clear of the deck without eating gunnel space, and 6 mm stainless rod is stout. For heavy game work with a bent butt under load, a tube holder spreads the strain far better.
Bare wire against a cork or EVA butt will mark it over time, especially with the boat thumping through chop. A wrap of clear heat shrink or self-amalgamating tape on the contact points solves it permanently. Do it on the bench before the first trip, not after.
Under a gunnel lip or on a bulkhead where the rods lie fore and aft and out of the walking line. Mount it so the butts sit aft and the tips forward, and you can grab a rod without swinging it through the face of whoever is next to you.
