The Jarrett 3-Speed hand winch is the workhorse of the range — three distinct gear ratios give you precision control across the full range of winching tasks. Start in 10:1 to break a stuck load or haul a heavy, well-laden boat up a steep ramp; shift to 5:1 for the bulk of the haul; then switch to 1:1 direct drive to take up the last few metres of slack quickly once the boat is moving freely. Rated to 800 kg working load.

The three speeds are selected by handle direction and a simple selector — the mechanism is intuitive to use once you've tried it and dramatically reduces fatigue on heavy hauls. Popular with boat owners trailering heavier aluminium and fibreglass vessels in the 5–7 metre range.

Why pick the 800 kg over the heavier three-speed?

Same three ratios, lighter drum and frame. If your loaded rig sits comfortably under 800 kg you carry less weight on the drawbar and less hardware to rinse and grease. Sitting close to the rating, or planning to upsize the boat, take the heavier model instead.

Cable or webbing on this one?

Webbing for fibreglass — it will not scuff the gelcoat around the bow eye and it lies flat as it stacks. Cable for boats retrieved over sand and grit, where webbing picks up abrasive and wears from the inside. Either way, keep it covered against sun between trips.

Is this too much winch for a small tinnie?

Probably. A boat you can nearly push on by hand does not need three ratios or a drum built for 800 kg, and you would be hauling around weight and maintenance you never use. Buy the three-speed when the retrieve is genuinely hard: heavy hull, steep ramp, loading solo.
