The Jarrett 2-Speed hand winch gives you the best of both worlds: a high-torque 5:1 gear ratio for hauling heavy loads with minimal effort, switchable to a fast 1:1 direct drive for quickly taking up slack and winding in line at speed once the load is moving. This makes launching and retrieving boats noticeably faster than a single-speed winch of the same capacity.

Rated to 700 kg, it handles the same loads as the single-speed 5:1 model but with added operational efficiency. The 2-speed mechanism is engaged by reversing the handle direction — no levers or selector switches to fumble with at the ramp. Hot-dip galvanised steel with ratchet pawl and removable handle.

Does two speeds mean more pulling power?

No. Same 700 kg rating, and the heavy work still happens at 5:1 — identical leverage to the single-speed model. What you gain is time, not muscle. If your problem is effort rather than minutes at the ramp, look at a higher ratio or a braked winch.

Where does the fast gear earn its keep?

Winding slack. On a single-speed winch you stand there cranking line in for nothing before the boat even takes up, and again after you launch. Direct drive clears that dead time quickly, then you switch across for the pull. Busy ramp on a Saturday, it shows.

Which boats is this the wrong winch for?

Heavy hulls on steep ramps. Rated to 700 kg, and the hard part of the haul still sits at 5:1 — past that you want a higher ratio, or a brake winch that holds and lowers. It also adds a second gear set to rinse and grease after salt water.
