The Jarrett 1-Speed 3:1 Hand Winch delivers a 500 kg rated working capacity with a 3:1 mechanical advantage — providing the pulling power needed for launching and retrieving boats at the ramp, loading trailers, and general yard or industrial use. The single-speed gear system is straightforward to operate: crank the removable handle to wind line onto the drum, with the built-in ratchet pawl locking the load securely between pulls.

Jarrett winches are manufactured to exacting standards and are among the most widely used hand winches in Australia — trusted by boat owners, tradies and industrial operators for decades. Hot-dip galvanised steel construction is built for outdoor use and salt-air exposure. What size boat does 500 kg cover?

Work from your loaded weight — hull, motor, full fuel, batteries, safety gear, the lot — not the dry figure on the plate. Then leave real margin, because a steep ramp, tired rollers and a wet surface all raise what the winch has to drag. If it is close, size up.

Is 3:1 hard work?

On a light tinnie you mostly drive onto the trailer, no. On anything heavier, or a steep ramp where the hull is still floating, you will feel every turn. What the low ratio buys you is speed — fewer handle turns for each metre of line coming in.

Cable, webbing or bare drum?

Webbing is kinder to a fibreglass bow eye, lies flat on the drum and will not put a steel burr through your palm. Galvanised cable handles grit and abrasion better and stows tighter. The bare drum only makes sense if the line you already own is still sound.
