Common questions about Diesel Air Heater 12V Caravan Air Motorhome 5kW All-in-one Car Camper Parking Trailer Heating
Is 5kW too much heater for a small van?
For a small poptop, often yes. A 5kW unit will bring the van up to temperature fast and then idle on its lowest setting for the rest of the night, which is exactly the condition that soots up a burner over time. Run it hard for a while occasionally to clean it out.
Does the all-in-one design make installing it easier?
It saves you mounting a separate tank and pump and running fuel line between them, which is most of the fiddle in a heater install. What it does not change is the exhaust. That still has to exit outside the van, well away from windows, hatches and where your neighbours sit.
Will it flatten my battery overnight?
Not usually, but the start-up is the greedy part. A diesel heater pulls hard while the glow plug fires, then settles to running the fan and pump. The pattern that hurts a battery is repeated short cycles all night, so set a sensible temperature and let it run steadily.
