Measure twice. The clamp opens for rails between 19 mm and 32 mm, and it takes a rod butt up to 52 mm, so run a tape over both before you order. A bimini frame, a gunwale lip and a bow rail are all different diameters on the same boat.
The locking clip does the holding, but a clamp mount works on friction, so it is only as good as how tight you did it up. Check it after the first run, seat the rod butt right down, and clip a leash to the reel if you are trolling anything serious.
Rinse it with the rest of the boat. Anodised marine alloy handles salt well, but the clamp thread is where grit and dried salt collect and seize things up. A freshwater hose down and the occasional wind out and back in keeps it moving for years.
