The thimble is the grooved eye at the tail. Wire rope or cord gets spliced or swaged around it so the bend runs on metal instead of chafing itself apart on a bare eye. If you are clipping to webbing or a ring instead, a plain snap suits you better.
Not directly. The 60 mm is the hook's overall length and 6 mm is the gauge of the bar it is formed from. The thimble groove and the gate opening are both smaller again, so measure your wire or cord and the ring you are clipping to first.
Use it for tensioning and attachment, not for holding a person or lifting a load. No working load figure is published for this fitting, and a snap gate is the weak point the moment it gets side loaded. Where failure would hurt someone, fit a rated shackle.
