Is 5 litres overkill for a single boat?
For a single trailer, yes. This size earns its keep when you are coating a yard full of trailers, frames and fittings before winter, or running a hire fleet. A home owner doing an annual coat will still be working through it in years.
How do I get an even coat over a whole trailer?
Wash the salt off and let it dry properly first, or you seal moisture underneath. Then work top down with the trigger, light passes rather than a single heavy flood, and pay attention to spring hangers, the underside of the drawbar and inside the guards where water sits.
Will it make everything slippery to handle?
Lanolin leaves a waxy film, so a coated drawbar and coupling are greasy to grab for a while. Keep it off walkways, the boat ramp side of the trailer guards and anywhere you put a foot, and wipe the handles you actually use.
