Tub, if you pack bearings by hand. A grease gun fills the nipple but never works grease properly into the cage, which is where trailer hubs fail. Open the tub, glove up and push grease through the rollers until it comes out the other side.
Clean the old grease out first. Different thickeners can turn each other runny, and you cannot see contamination or a pitted roller through packed grease anyway. Strip the hub, wash the bearings in solvent, inspect them, then repack. That is the whole point of doing it yourself.
It buys you margin, not a free pass. Trailer hubs get dunked in salt water while hot, which draws water past the seal regardless of what grease is in there. Still pull the hubs each season, look at the rollers and seals, and repack.
