Grease or the spray for a trailer coupling?
Grease, every time. A coupling sits nose-down and any liquid runs off it within a week. The semi-solid lanolin stays in the cup and on the ball, which is what keeps the pair from grinding and rusting together over a season of ramp water.
Can I pack wheel bearings with it?
Not the job for it. This is a protective coating grease for couplings, hitch balls, hinges and suspension pivots, where it seals the surface against salt. Hot, fast-spinning trailer hubs want a bearing grease built for that heat. Keep both in the shed.
Does it go hard or wash off over summer?
Lanolin stays waxy rather than setting hard, and it clings through rain and ramp dunkings better than a light oil. It does pick up grit on a dirt road, so wipe the coupling back and lay a fresh smear on before the next trip.
