Overview

An insulated 2-tab copper busbar that turns one heavy feed into 2 protected outputs. The tabs are designed to carry AllSpark surface-mount circuit breakers, so the breakers bolt straight to the bar instead of being wired in individually.

The bar is nickel electro-plated and insulated, which keeps a dropped spanner from finding a live face. The surface body screws down inside a battery box or onto a bulkhead.

Common questions

Is a 2 tab bar worth it over wiring breakers individually?

Yes if you want both feeds landing in the same place. The tabs carry the breakers directly, which removes a pair of joints and a pair of crimps from the circuit. Fewer joints is fewer hot spots, and a hot spot is what melts a terminal.

Does the bar itself need protection upstream?

Yes. The 150A rating protects nothing on its own, so put protection at the source, sized to the feed cable, and a fault between the battery and the bar then has something to clear it. The bar is a distribution point, not a protective device.

Why does the insulation matter on a busbar?

Because the bar sits live whenever the battery is connected, and a dropped spanner across a bare bar is the fastest way to weld a tool to your build. The plating and insulation mean only the tabs you are working on are exposed. Still disconnect at the source first.
