Is the 60x6 the size most people want?

It is the everyday one, big enough to work with cold hands, small enough to live on a dog lead, an awning guy or a canopy corner without flogging about. Step up only when the pull is heavy or the rope is thick.

Which way can it be loaded?

Along its length, not across the gate. The spring gate is there to make clipping quick, not to take a sideways pull, and a hook loaded crooked can spring open under load. Add a ring or a swivel so it can pull itself straight.

Fixing it to an alloy boat or trailer, any issue?

Only where the metals touch. Stainless against bare aluminium in salt air corrodes the alloy, leaving white powder and a fitting that works loose. Barrier paste, a nylon washer or sealant in the join fixes it, and a freshwater rinse afterwards helps.
