Common questions

What jobs suit the 6mm hook?

Heavier hanging and tensioning: a swag or chair rack inside a canopy, chain runs, a spring hook for annexe walls, holding a tarp corner under real tension. The 6 mm bar resists straightening, so it is the size to reach for when the load is doing more than hanging still.

Can I use it in place of a shackle?

Not where a failure would matter. A shackle is captive and rated; an open hook is neither, and no working load is published for this fitting. Keep the hook for hanging, tensioning and tidying, and fit a rated shackle on the link that holds everything together.

Is it safe against alloy?

Hanging off it, yes. Bolted or clamped tight against bare aluminium in salt air, the alloy corrodes around the contact point and goes chalky white. If the hook is going to live permanently against alloy, put something between them and check it now and then.
