Common questions

What does the long arm give me over a standard S hook?

Reach. The stretched arm hooks over a rail, a gunwale lip or a thick awning rafter that a tight hook will not sit around, and it holds the load further from the edge. The trade-off is more leverage on the bend, so it opens easier under a hard pull.

Will 6mm hold my awning down in a blow?

It will hold a guy line, but an open hook is only captive while the line stays tight. When the wind drops and the rope goes slack, the hook can jump off. Tie a light lashing across the gap, or run a closed ring where it matters.

Where do these actually corrode?

Where they sit wet and airless: under a webbing strap, inside a rope eye, buried in a damp locker. Stainless needs air to stay passive, so a hook left strapped up wet stains and pits faster than the same hook out in the salt spray.
