Frank Marine
It is the smallest in the range. The number is the size step and 3/8 inch describes the bar it is wound from. Light work suits it: flag halyards, a dog lead, shade cloth corners. Step up in size for anything that takes real tension.
It matters if the line can spin. A fixed eye cannot rotate, so any twist in a rope or lead winds up instead of shaking out, and you end up unwinding kinks by hand. Where something turns constantly, a swivelling snap saves you the grief.
It resists pitting far better than hardware-shop stainless, but brown tea staining still shows where salt dries around the spring and inside the eye. That is cosmetic. Rinse it with fresh water after a run and the marks wipe away with a rag.
