Common questions

Is an eye plate strong enough for a tie-down on a trailer?

For strapping gear down, yes, provided you bolt through into something solid rather than screwing into sheet. The plate spreads the load over its footprint, which is the whole idea. What it is not is a rated recovery or lifting point, and no load rating is given here.

Will a shackle fit through the eye?

Check before you buy, because no eye dimension is given. Take the shackle you intend to use and measure the pin, then the bow width, since a pin that passes can still leave the shackle fouling the plate. A shackle that binds transfers load sideways into the eye.

Does it need sealing where it mounts?

Every time. The face sitting against the deck is where salt water gets trapped with no air, and that is how stainless corrodes underneath while the visible part still shines. Bed it on sealant, snug the bolts rather than crushing the bedding, and rinse the area regularly.
