Stabilus
Probably, yes. At 600N this is built for heavy lids — think a steel canopy door or a big storage hatch. Put it on a light alloy locker and the lid will fly open, strain the hinges and refuse to stay shut. Match the force to the weight.
Length and stroke decide where it fits; force decides whether the lid behaves. Get the length from the strut you are removing, then choose force by weight. Same fitting, very different feel. Going a step too strong is the more common mistake, and the harder one to live with.
Rod pointing down, in almost every case. That keeps the seal at the bottom sitting in oil, which is what stops it drying out and losing pressure early. Fitted rod-up a strut still works, it just will not last as long. Sort the orientation before you bolt the other end up.
