Common questions

What does the swivel ball actually buy me?

Movement in more than one plane. A plain deck hinge only folds fore and aft, so a bimini leg that is not perfectly square binds and bends the tube. The ball lets the leg find its own angle, which matters on a curved gunwale or a deck that is not flat.

Is 25mm the tube size or the base size?

The tube. It takes 25mm frame tube in the jaw, while the base footprint is whatever suits the casting. Measure the outside of your bimini leg before ordering, because a leg that is a size under will wobble in the jaw and wear the pin oval.

Can I screw it straight onto a fibreglass deck?

Not into thin glass on its own. A bimini leg is a lever, and every gust tries to pull the base out of the laminate. Use through-bolts with a backing plate or large washers under the deck, and bed the base on sealant so water never reaches the core.
