Will the round cup fit my outboard?
It suits most lower units up to mid-size, where the intake grilles sit in a compact round or squarish area on the side of the leg. Bigger engines often have long oblong intakes that a round cup cannot seal over. Check the leg before you pick.
How often should I actually flush?
After every salt trip, before the motor has properly cooled. Salt crystals form as water dries in the passages, and the damage builds quietly until an overheat or a corroded housing shows up. A few minutes on the driveway is the easiest maintenance you will do.
Can I just spray the hose over the motor instead?
That rinses the outside and does nothing for the inside, which is where the salt actually sits. The cup clamps over the intakes so mains water gets drawn through the pump, the block and the exhaust. Wash the cowl as well, but do both.
