Common questions
How much clearance does it actually need?
Three metres from walls and anything overhead. That rules out most patios, pergolas and caravan annexes without a rethink, and it is the first thing to settle before anything else. Ceramic holds serious heat, and a Big Joe at searing temperature is not a small fire.
Can one grill really smoke at 107 and sear at 399?
It can, and the ceramic is why, because thick walls hold whatever the vents set, from a 107 degree overnight smoke to a 399 degree sear. What it will not do is switch quickly between them. Decide the cook before lighting, since a hot kamado takes hours to drop.
Is 159.7 kg a problem?
It decides where the grill lives for good. The cart wheels roll on hard level ground and go nowhere on grass, gravel or a step. Work out the spot with the three metre clearance first, get help for the initial placement, and plan on leaving it there.

Choosing between the Big Joe and the Classic was a tough call, but I’m glad I went with the Big Joe. The extra space really matters—you’ll thank yourself when you want to cook multiple items at once or experiment with different setups. I’ve used it with accessories like the soapstone, and pizza stone, and they perform beautifully. The Big Joe delivers consistently amazing results, perfectly seared steaks and delicious pizzas also low and slow meats. It does require some getting used to, but i...
