Good replacement
Common questions about BJ-MFGC Cast Iron Fire Grate for Big Joe 24 Inch Grills
How do I know my fire grate needs replacing?
Cracks, a sagging middle, or bars burnt thin. A tired grate lets lump charcoal slump into the ash and choke its own airflow, and from there you fight the temperature all cook. If your kamado has stopped holding a searing heat, check the grate before blaming the fuel.
Does it arrive seasoned?
No, it comes as raw cast iron and wants a coat of oil before the first light-up. This is not a cooking surface, so the seasoning is purely about rust rather than food release. Once a few hot fires have been through it, it blackens off and looks after itself.
How hard is it to fit?
No tools and next to no time. The grate drops into the Big Joe firebox and sits there under its own weight, so the real work is getting the old one out of a cold, ashy grill. Clear the ash out properly while you have the firebox open.
