Furrion
It gets you the last few metres, not the whole approach. The infrared reaches about 5m, which covers the drawbar and the ground right behind the van. Past that on a black night you are relying on your reversing lights and a spotter, same as everyone else.
The 2.4GHz link is quoted to 150m, so length is not your issue, obstructions are. A metal-bodied tow vehicle, a loaded roof rack or another van parked hard alongside on the same band can chop the picture. Mount the monitor where the antenna has a clear line.
For reversing and a quick glance at what is behind you, the 5-inch screen does the job at arm's length on the windscreen. If you want to read number plates or watch traffic on a highway merge, the 720 x 480 resolution here will feel soft.
