How long before a cold feed is hot?

Longer than you think. 40W of PTC heating is designed to hold food between 60 and 70 degrees, not to blast it from fridge cold. Plug it in at the start of a drive and it will be ready by smoko, not in ten minutes.

Is 1.5L enough for two people?

One adult, realistically. 1.5L is the whole box including the removable compartment, so a decent serve of curry and rice fills it. Two smaller lunches fit if nobody wants seconds. Treat it as one hot meal rather than a family feed.

Can I leave it running with the engine off?

Not for long. It draws 40W the whole time it is plugged in, and a cranking battery does not like that over a full smoko break. Run it while the engine is going, or off an auxiliary battery if you have one.
