Between two flat fittings, a chain link at one end and a tang, shackle or anchor connector at the other. Both ends pin directly, so you lose the shackles and the assembly stays short. That is handy in a bow roller where length is the thing you do not have.
Not hard against the shank. Swivels are built for straight pull, and an anchor that rolls over on a hard bottom side-loads the jaw. Put a short length of chain or a shackle between the anchor and the swivel so the load stays in line with the barrel.
Once a season is fair for a boat that lives in salt. You are looking for a pin that has worn a groove, a jaw that has spread, or a barrel that no longer turns smoothly by hand. Any of those and it goes in the bin, not back on.
