An eye bolt is a threaded shank with a loop on the head, so it goes through a hole and takes a nut behind. An eye nut is the opposite: a loop with an internal thread that winds onto an existing stud. Look at what you already have.
Not if you want it to last. An eye bolt is designed for pull straight along the shank. Load it at an angle and you are bending the shank where it meets the eye, which is exactly where they let go. Use a pad eye or a swivel for angled pulls.
That hidden section is the risky bit. Inside a snug hole with damp and no air, stainless loses the oxide layer that protects it and corrodes from the middle out while both ends look fine. Seal the hole, bed the head, and pull it for a look every few years.
