Common questions
What does without nut mean for me?
There are no lock nuts on the threads, so nothing holds your setting once you have tensioned it. Vibration and rig movement will let it wind back. Add lock nuts, or seize the body with a wire split pin, before you trust it with anything load bearing.
Eye and eye, or should I have got a jaw end?
Eye and eye suits anything you can shackle onto: lifelines, stays with a toggle, awning tensioners, fence-style rails. Jaw ends pin directly to a tang and handle articulation better. If your attachment point is a flat tang with a single hole, eye and eye needs a shackle to bridge it.
How do I stop it seizing?
Stainless threads gall, meaning they cold-weld to each other and then neither back off nor tighten. Put an anti-seize or lanolin on the threads at assembly and work the turnbuckle by hand before loading it. Do not tape over the body, because trapped water starts crevice corrosion.
