Overview

A 12V-powered entry step that extends and retracts automatically, taking the effort — and the trip hazard of a manual fold-down step — out of getting in and out of the caravan. The "Tecno-Step" aluminium tread is durable and non-slip.

Common questions

Is 210 mm of tread deep enough to feel safe?

It takes the ball and most of the heel of an adult boot, which is normal for a van step but shallower than a house stair. Plant your foot square rather than stepping down heel-first, and be careful in thongs with wet feet after a beach day.

Does it close by itself when I start the car?

Not on its own. The step retracts at the touch of a switch, but ignition-linked auto-close needs the separate wiring harness, which is not in the box. Without it, retracting the step is a habit you build. Plenty of vans have lost a step on the way out of a caravan park.

How high up should it be mounted?

The drop from the mounting plate to the tread sets your ground clearance, so hold a tape under the van before drilling. On a steep caravan park driveway or a rutted bush track, a step mounted too low is the thing that grounds out. Mount as high as the doorway allows.
