Common questions about Lippert 12 Volt TV Slide
What problem does a TV slide actually solve?
It gets the screen out of the cabinet for viewing and back in for travel, so the TV is not living exposed on a bracket while you cross the Nullarbor. If you have ever pulled a TV off its mount before every drive, this ends that ritual.
Do I need to build cabinetry around it?
You need a cavity that suits it and something solid to fix it to, as this is the mechanism rather than a finished cabinet. Plan the wiring run for the TV and the slide before you close the joinery up, and leave yourself access to the motor.
Will it drain the battery sitting there?
The motor only draws while it is moving, which is a few seconds each way, so it is not a load you need to plan around. The wired remote means no batteries to go flat in a handset either, which counts in a van used every night.
