How do I know my van falls in the 18-20 ft range?

Measure the body only, front wall to rear wall, and leave out the drawbar, the spare wheel and any bike rack hanging off the back. That body figure is what has to land between 5.51 and 6.12m. Going by the advertised van length is how people end up with a cover that will not reach.

Will it mark the paintwork?

The fabric is not what scratches a van, trapped grit is. Wash and dry the van before the cover goes on, and tape or pad anything sharp it will sit against, like awning brackets and gutter ends. Refit it after a big blow rather than leaving it flogging.

Can I leave it on over a wet winter?

Yes, provided the van goes under it dry and the vents stay clear. A cover put on a damp roof seals the damp in, and moisture that cannot breathe out is what grows mould on seals and window rubbers. Check the straps after every windy week.
