3mm wire or light rope, so this is the small end of the range, the size you use on lifelines, flag halyards, awning guys and camper tie-downs rather than anchor gear. If your wire is heavier than that, the thimble will distort the first time you load it.
Squeeze the eye up tight around it. Swage or grip the wire close to the thimble so there is no slack in the loop, then check that the thimble cannot rotate by hand. Loose thimbles in light wire fall out the moment the load comes off and go overboard.
Less than you would think. Light wire gear usually lives above the water and gets rinsed, and 304 handles that. The catch is that a small thimble has little metal to lose, so surface corrosion matters more here than on a heavy fitting. Check it, rinse it, replace it when pitted.
