How do I measure my roof thickness accurately?

At the cut edge of the existing opening, with the old hatch out and a tape hooked over the lip. Include everything: outer skin, foam core, timber or alloy frame and the inner lining. Thicker roofs usually mean a composite build, and those vary between vans more than people expect.

Will it seal properly on a composite roof?

The clamp does the holding; the sealant does the sealing. Strip the old bedding back to clean surface, use a sealant made for van roofs rather than silicone, and bed the flange rather than smearing a fillet around the outside afterwards. Most leaking hatches were rushed at this step.

Does the internal blind stop heat, or just light?

Mostly light and glare. The lid warms up before the blind gets a say, so on a stinking afternoon you are cutting the glare and some of the radiant heat, not all of it. Run the partial setting for daytime living and full shade when you want a nap.
