Common questions

Manual or electric — which should I be looking at?

Manual, if you want nothing that can fail in the scrub. There is no motor, no relay and no wiring to chafe through on a corrugated road, and the springs are replaceable. Electric wins only when bending down to flip a step is the part you cannot manage.

How long do the springs last?

Long enough that most owners never think about them, and they give warning before they go. When the step starts sagging instead of snapping up, or needs a hand to stow, the springs have tired. Replace them as a pair so both sides pull evenly, and rinse grit off after beach trips.

Is a fold-down step a trip hazard at night?

The tread itself is non-slip, but a fold-down step in the dark is easy to misjudge, and half-stowed is worse than fully out. Fit a light above the door or run a strip of reflective tape along the leading edge. Give it a nudge with your foot before you commit.

Returns
