Fixed or folding pole light?
Fixed, if the boat lives on a mooring or you can back the trailer in without the light hitting the garage door. There is no hinge to seize, rattle or snap off, which is the usual weak point. If clearance is tight, take the folding version.
What does 360 degrees mean in practice?
It means the light has to be seen from any bearing, so mounting matters more than the light. Put it where the outboard cowl, a bimini, a cabin or a stacked esky will not throw a shadow across an arc. A blocked all-round light is not compliant.
Do I still need this if I only fish during the day?
Yes, if there is any chance of being out at dusk, in fog or at anchor. Plenty of trips run longer than planned, and a white all-round light is what stops another boat running into you while you sit still. Fit it and forget it.
