Galvanised shackles are suitable for freshwater use, yard rigging, hay bale handling, temporary lifting and general load restraint where ongoing salt water exposure is not a concern. Available in multiple sizes. For permanent marine installation in salt water, specify stainless steel (A-2360_).

Common questions about Galvanised D-Shackle

Galvanised or stainless, which one for my setup?

Salt water means stainless, every time. Galvanised is the sensible pick for freshwater, yard rigging and load restraint on the trailer, where the zinc coating lasts for years. Put galvanised in permanent salt immersion and you will be replacing it before long.

Can I use a D-shackle for vehicle recovery?

Not this one. Recovery needs a rated bow shackle with a stamped working load limit, matched to the vehicle and the strap. A general-purpose galvanised shackle is for tie-downs, rigging and yard work where nothing is going to launch itself at a windscreen.

How do I stop the pin seizing?

Do it up hand-tight then back it off a quarter turn, and never gorilla it with a spanner. A smear of grease or anti-seize on the thread saves a lot of swearing later, particularly on galvanised threads that pick up grit and coating burrs.
