Ducted or recirculating, which do I want?
Ducted every time, if the wall allows it. Recirculating pushes air straight back into the room after filtering, so the heat and steam stay with you and only grease and odour get dealt with. It also wants a charcoal filter that is not supplied in the box.
Is 1200 mm too wide for a normal cooktop?
Wider than a kitchen hood, and deliberately so. Over a BBQ plate you want the canopy overhanging the cooking zone on both sides, because smoke drifts sideways before it rises. Under-sizing the hood over a grill is the usual reason people say extraction does not work.
Where does it mount in a camp or annex setup?
On a solid wall with 240 volt power behind it, since this is a wall-mount chimney canopy rather than a portable unit. That makes it a fixture for a permanent camp kitchen, a hard-walled annex or an outdoor BBQ station, not something that travels with you.
