Common questions about Coast RV Plastic Barb Elbow Fitting | 12mm Caravan Plumbing
Why is this rated so much lower than a push-fit elbow?
Because the limit is the hose and clamp, not the plastic. A barb seals by stretching soft hose over a ridge, which lets go long before a rigid joint would. At roughly 30 PSI it still sits above what a normal van pump makes, so it is adequate rather than generous.
Do I need anything else to install it?
Hose clamps, which are not in the pack. Each barb needs one, so an elbow takes a pair, and stainless is worth it in a damp locker where plated steel rusts into a ring of orange dust. Warming the hose end in hot water makes it slide on without a fight.
Barb or push-fit for a tight corner?
Barb if your van runs soft hose, push-fit if it runs semi-rigid tube. Do not mix them at the same joint hoping for the best. A barbed elbow also needs clearance for the clamps either side, so measure the space behind the sink before you commit to the route.
