Overview

Black unbacked premium auto and marine carpet, sold by the metre off a 2 metre wide roll. A quantity of 1 gives you 2m² — 2m wide × 1m long — so increase the quantity for each additional 2m² you need.

The standard lining for drawer systems, canopy interiors, boat floors and anywhere a surface needs to be quiet and hard-wearing.

Common questions

What does unbacked mean for how it goes down?

No rubber or foam layer on the underside, so it glues straight to the surface and wraps around edges and curves without bulking up. It needs full contact adhesive coverage rather than tape, and it will telegraph every lump in the substrate underneath.

How much should I order for a drawer system?

Work out the total surface area including drawer sides, tops and the bottoms you will never see, then add a fifth for wrap-around and mistakes. Each unit is 2m wide by a metre long, so order in whole units and keep the offcuts.

Does black show dust?

Black hides stains and marks better than it hides dust, and red bulldust will sit on it visibly. It also runs hotter in a sun-struck canopy. If your gear lives in the desert, grey is kinder to look at between washes; black looks sharper indoors.
