Common questions about Kamado Joe Charcoal Basket - Classic Joe

What does a basket change day to day?

Clean-up, mostly. Lift the basket out and the leftover lump comes with it, so you tip ash rather than digging around the firebox. The divider is the other half of it: bank the charcoal against it and you get a hot zone and a cool zone in the same dome.

Will it fit my kamado?

It suits the 18-inch Classic Joe and a Large Big Green Egg. It does not fit the Konnected Joe or the Big Joe Konnected Joe, so check which model is on your deck before ordering. The 372 mm width is the number to compare against if you are running something else.

Does it change how the fire burns?

Yes, and mostly for the better. Holding the lump in a stainless cage keeps air moving up through the bed instead of around a slumped pile, so the fire lights faster and holds steadier. The trade-off is depth: at 162 mm you cannot pile fuel as high as a bare firebox.
