Common questions about Coast RV Gator 12V Electric Trailer Jack with Clamp | 1800KG Cap | 355mm Lift
Does 1800 kg mean it only suits vans under that weight?
Read it as the load on the jack, not the mass of the van. A drawbar jack carries ball weight, which is a fraction of what the van weighs, so heavier vans are often well inside the rating. Weigh your ball load rather than guessing from the ATM plate.
Will 355 mm of travel level my van?
It covers hitching and a mild slope, nothing dramatic. Travel disappears fast once the foot sinks into soft ground, so carry a solid base plate or timber blocks to make up the difference. Side-to-side levelling is a job for ramps under the wheels, not the jack.
What happens if the battery is flat?
You are not jacking anything. An electric jack depends on 12V power and a lead long enough to reach it, so a dead battery at a bush camp leaves you stuck hitched. Keep a bottle jack or the old wind-up jack in the boot and know your plan B.
