Overview
A wobble roller — the articulated pivoting roller used on modern trailer bunk frames to support the hull sides and bottom evenly regardless of minor variations in hull shape. The roller pivots freely in all directions, self-adjusting to the hull surface as the boat loads and unloads. Polyurethane construction is durable and gentle on fibreglass and aluminium.
Wobble rollers are used in sets along the keel and bunk rails of multi-roller trailers to cradle the hull evenly — far better for hull health than point-load bunks.
Common questions
What does a wobble roller do that a fixed one does not?
It pivots, so it follows the hull as the boat moves on and off rather than digging a hard point into one spot. On a hull with any flare or chine, that means contact across a wider area and less chance of a dent showing up.
How many do I need?
They work in sets, not singly. Wobble rollers are meant to run in banks along the bunk rails so the hull sits on many small contacts instead of a few hard ones. Replacing one worn roller in an otherwise tired set just moves the load around.
How do I tell when one is worn out?
Look for flat spots, splits at the bore, and any roller that no longer spins by hand. A seized roller drags the hull instead of rolling it, and that is how gelcoat gets scored. Spin every one along the frame before the next launch.
