Overview
A 6-inch (150 mm) cotton-reel style boat trailer roller in durable polyurethane. Polyurethane rollers are significantly harder and more abrasion-resistant than rubber while being gentler on hull gelcoat than hard plastic — the ideal balance for fibreglass and aluminium hulls. The cotton-reel profile provides a self-centring contact surface that guides the keel and hull centreline evenly as the boat loads on or off the trailer.
Common questions
Will this fit my existing roller bracket?
Measure the shaft and the gap before ordering. A 6 inch cotton reel is a standard size for trailer bracket frames, but bore diameter and bracket width vary between makers, and an old bracket may have worn oval. Take the tired roller off and measure it rather than eyeballing the new one.
Is polyurethane better than rubber for my hull?
For a fibreglass hull, yes. Rubber rollers go soft, pick up grit and leave black marks down the gelcoat. Polyurethane is harder, wears slower and doesn't mark, while still giving more than a hard plastic roller would. On an alloy hull either works, but urethane lasts longer.
Where on the trailer should a cotton reel go?
On the keel line. The waisted profile is there to cradle the keel and pull the hull straight as it comes on, so it belongs on the centre spine, not out on the wobble roller arms. Flat or V rollers do the outboard work of supporting the hull sides.
