The pin sits flush with the shackle body, so nothing catches a sheet, a sail or your shin. You turn it with an Allen key. The trade-off is that you cannot undo it with your fingers or a screwdriver, so the key needs to live with the boat.
No. There is no rated working load on this fitting, and unrated stainless has no business in a lifting sling or a snatch strap. Use it for rigging, tie-downs, anchoring gear and general marine connections, where the shackle is not the thing standing between somebody and a hospital.
Snug, then back it off a fraction. Stainless threads gall when you crank them, and a galled pin will not come out again without a grinder. Add a dab of anti-seize on assembly, and if it is a permanent job, mouse the pin with wire instead of over-tightening.
