Overview
The Reich Caravan Weight Control is a precision German-engineered drawbar nose-weight scale designed to help you tow safely and legally every time you hitch up. Rated to 1000 kg and finished in high-visibility yellow, this mechanical spring-scale device measures the static downward force your caravan exerts on the tow ball — a critical figure for safe towing that is legally required to fall within your tow vehicle's rated ball load. Its robust steel construction and analogue dial deliver instant, battery-free readings, so you can check and adjust your load in the driveway before you leave — no guesswork, no apps, no electronics to fail in the field.
Designed for Australian caravanners, RV owners, and 4WD tourers who take compliance and road safety seriously, the Reich Weight Control is an essential pre-trip safety check tool for anyone towing a caravan, camper trailer, or horse float on Australian roads. Whether you're heading off-road through outback tracks, cruising the Great Ocean Road, or doing a lap of Australia, getting your nose weight right protects your tow vehicle's steering, brakes, and suspension — and keeps you on the right side of the law. Compact enough to store in your tow vehicle's toolbox, it's the kind of no-fuss, reliable piece of gear every caravan owner should carry.

Common questions
Why does ball weight matter as much as total weight?
Because it decides how the rig behaves, not just whether it is legal. Too little download on the ball and the van starts wagging at highway speed; too much and you lighten the front of the tow vehicle and dull the steering. Total mass tells you nothing about either.
Does an analogue dial lose anything against a digital scale?
You lose a digital readout and gain a tool that always works. There is nothing to go flat in a drawer between trips and nothing to reset. Read the dial square on rather than from an angle, take the measurement with the van sitting level, and it repeats reliably.
When should I take the measurement?
Loaded, on level ground, with the drawbar at the height it will sit behind the tow vehicle. Measuring an empty van tells you nothing useful, because water tanks and a loaded front boot are what move the figure. Re-check any time you shift heavy gear between the front and rear.
