Flip-locks win in Australian conditions. Grit and salt get into a twist mechanism and it either seizes or slips, whereas a lever clamp you can open with gloves on and retension with a small screwdriver when it starts to give. Check the tension every few walks.
Not inside one. Collapsed they are still around 65 cm, which is taller than most daypacks, so they ride on the outside under the side compression straps with the tips down. In a caravan bay or a boot they lie flat and take up nothing.
Mid-weight, and a fair place to land. At 280 g a pole you notice them in your hands late in a long day, but alloy takes a whack that lighter carbon would not. Your knees on a descent will not care about the extra grams.
