How do I know it is the main board and not the power board?

Rough rule: no standby light, no life at all and no reaction to the power button usually points at the power side. A set that lights up and backlights the panel, but gives you no picture, no menu and no response to inputs, is pointing at the main board.

Is swapping a board a job for a camper with a screwdriver?

If you are comfortable pulling a back cover, unclipping ribbon cables without creasing them and keeping your screws in order, yes. Work on a towel with the panel face down, take a photo of every plug before you unplug it, and leave the mains disconnected.

One board across several screen sizes, is that right?

It is. The panel changes with screen size but the board driving it is shared across the sets it is listed for, which is why one part number covers them. Match it against the model and revision on the sticker at the back of your TV before you commit.
