Is 5 m enough for my install?

For a rooftop unit feeding two or three nearby outlets, usually yes. For an under-bunk unit ducted to the far end of a long van, it will not reach, and joining lengths adds leaks. Run a string along the actual path first, around cupboards rather than through them, then choose.

Does it matter how I route it?

More than the length does. Every sharp bend and every sag full of kinks strangles the airflow, so keep the curves wide and support the duct every so often. A duct squashed flat behind a cupboard wall is the usual reason one vent blows nothing.

Can I cut it shorter?

Yes, and you should trim it to the run rather than coiling the excess behind a panel. A loop of spare duct is dead airflow and a place for condensation to pool. Cut it cleanly, seal the collar joints with proper tape, and keep the insulation intact right to the vent.
