Common questions about CMS Single White Power Points

How much room do I need behind the wall lining?

Mounted on the wall face, it pokes 32mm through, so you need that much clear space behind the lining plus room for the softwire lead to curve away. Cupboard backs, water lines and framing all live in that zone, so drill an inspection hole and look before you cut the plate opening.

Can I replace a failed outlet myself while travelling?

Swapping a dead plate on a softwire system is quick because it unplugs rather than unscrews from terminals. It is still 240V work, which is licensed in Australia, so carry the spare and the leads but book the change with a sparky. Caravan parks usually know a local.

Will it drop into my existing cut-out?

If your van already runs CMS J-Series plates, yes, the 130 x 72mm footprint drops straight into the same hole. If it runs another brand, measure first. Some plates are close enough to look interchangeable and then leave a gap along one edge that no amount of pushing will close.
